Seven more diabetes genes surprise scientists

In February we wrote a blog that reported on a group of genetic scientists who claimed they had almost completely genetically mapped out type 2 diabetes. It was a pretty bold claim, but we hoped they were right.
Today a genetics company from Iceland announced that it had discovered seven more genes associated with type 2 diabetes. So, certainly both claims will face the scrutiny of the scientific community.
For now, you are probably reading this because you are truly living with diabetes. Genes don't mean that much to you at this point, because you need to figure out how to best deal with the condition each day. We will spend about 80 percent of our time discussing these issues, but we will also take some time to discuss the science behind it all.
