You Do Not Need the Gym to Be Fit
Brisk walking plus some resistance exercises can help manage blood sugar, lipids, and blood pressure as well as working out at a gym.
A study from the Netherlands compared a group of "low cost" exercisers to a similar group of study participants who worked out at a gym under the direction of a personal trainer. At the end of the study, the two groups had similar blood sugar and lipid measurements.
Another recent study found that adding resistance training to a cardio workout lowers blood sugar even more. We encourage you to exercise your heart, but also to challenge your muscles with resistance training like push-ups.
